It is heavily inspired by the late, great teacher of Shakespeare and mentor, John Basil, as well as techniques picked up over the years working on the plays and coaching students.

Are you curious about Shakespeare but feel overwhelmed by the language? Or maybe you love watching Shakespeare in the Park but wonder how actors bring those famous lines to life? This class is a fun, low-pressure way to dive into acting through the world of the Bard. Through warmups, ensemble games, and playful exploration, you’ll unlock practical methods to making those poetic words feel clear, exciting, and alive. From clowns to kings, you’ll explore bold characters working on scenes and soliloquys while connecting with others in a welcoming, creative space. No experience needed – Just bring you enthusiasm, curiosity and willingness to play!
The class wraps up with a casual sharing for friends and family to celebrate what you’ve discovered.

The class begins on Thursday September 18th and will run every Thursday night from 6-7:30 until November 20th.

“All the world’s a stage” in this romantic comedy set in the early 1900s in the Adirondacks! Witty repartee and rollicking romance play out in the Forest of Arden as Rosalind flees upper society dressed in men’s garb with her cousin Celia to roam amidst a merry band of conservationists --finding refuge, freedom and love. Family betrayal, false disguises, wrestling matches, mistaken identity, love at first sight, clumsy clowns, melancholic malarky, catchy songs, bad love poems, bad jokes, snakes, lions and cultures clash under the forest canopy. Come find yourself in the forest and laugh at these classic fools and lovers from one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies.

Dennis is excited to return to Northeast Theater Ensemble to play George in Edward Albee's landmark play Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. The performance will be presented in an intimate setting at Schenectady historic site Mabee Farm June 21-30, 2024. Dennis previously played Lord Goring in NETE's production of An Ideal Husband by Oscar Wilde at Ten Broeck Mansion and is delighted to be working with such an amazing cast on this classic American play. Directed by Krysta Dennis, it also stars Janet Kimlicko as Martha, Suzanna Bornn as Honey, and Jordan Bray as Nick.

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf eviscerates the mid-century ideals of the American Dream. George and Martha, who are disappointed by each other, by life, marriage, and academia, perform a disturbing charade that slowly envelopes their young guests Nick and Honey over the course of an alcohol-fueled evening. In Albee’s play, truth is relative, and the niceties of polite society are dispensed with as an alcohol-induced haze blurs the distinction between truth and illusion. As the evening reaches fever pitch, illusion must be exorcized, but at what cost?

When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she isn’t allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. The true story of 19th-century astronomer Henrietta Leavitt explores a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries, when women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them. Social progress, like scientific progress, can be hard to see when one is trapped among earthly complications; Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the heavens and Earth.

Dennis is excited to be returning to Saratoga Shakespeare Company for their production of Much Ado About Nothing in Congress Park, directed by Wesly Broulik. It has bee several years since he was involved in the production of The Tempest at the Spa State Park and this is the company's first production in Congress Park since King Lear (also directed by Wesley Broulik) in 2019. Dennis will be playing Don Pedro and George Seacoal and is working with an stellar cast and creative team! The performances begin on July 20th and run until July 23, at 6:00 pm. Come down to the park, bring a blanket or chair, some food and your sense of whimsy for this lighthearded and fun production!

A pregnant housewife is abducted by robots and taken to the rainforest and forced to perform Hedda Gabler by her robot captors. Meanwhile, her family is back home in Michigan trying to find her, and Henrik Ibsen is in Norway attempting to write Hedda Gabler, as Strindberg taunts him. A hilarious and savage journey to freedom.
